Job summary

Hawthorne Health is seeking an experienced Cardiology Principal Investigator (MD/DO) for a part-time, 1099 contract. The role leads Cardiology/Metabolic trials within a growing community-based site network and requires prior PI or Sub-I experience on sponsor-initiated trials.

On-site presence is needed 1–4 times per month with remote oversight, and compensation ranges from $100 to $250 per hour. Candidates must hold an unrestricted medical license; board certification in Cardiology is preferred.

Qualifications

• MD with experience leading at least three sponsor-initiated trials as a PI or Sub-I.
• Current, unrestricted medical license.
• Board certification in Cardiology preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of ICH-GCP guidelines, FDA regulations, and related ethical/regulatory requirements for clinical research.
• Proven leadership and team management abilities.
• Excellent clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
• Strong verbal and written English communication skills; ability to present complex information clearly.

Responsibilities

• Accurately document findings and contribute to ongoing clinical trials, registries, or research protocols as applicable.
• Oversee and manage all aspects of clinical trials at the site, ensuring adherence to protocol and regulatory requirements.
• Lead and supervise the clinical research team, including sub-investigators and study coordinators.
• Delegate study-related duties to qualified personnel and ensure proper training and oversight.
• Conduct remote review of patient assessments to ensure appropriate participant enrollment.
• Review and interpret laboratory results, ECGs, and other diagnostic tests.
• Make critical medical decisions regarding participant care, adverse events, and protocol deviations.
• Ensure complete and timely collection and documentation of all study data.
• Communicate effectively with sponsors, CROs, IRBs, and regulatory authorities.
• Manage investigational product accountability, storage, and administration per protocol.
