UC Health is hiring a full-time Sonographer for the Cardiology Department at UC Health's Medical Arts Building.

The Sonographer will support UC Medical Center's Cardiology Lab by delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs, established standards of care and according to policy and procedures.

Responsibilities

The role of the Cardiac Sonographer is to perform echocardiographic diagnostic procedures with the ability to utilize a variety of equipment to determine accurate assessment of cardiac function, anatomy, and physiology flow parameters in multiple patient care areas.
  1. Engages in population appropriate communication.
  2. Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks.
  3. Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment.
  4. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient. Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary.
  5. Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems.
  6. Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately.
  7. Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from unique psychological needs or those associated with religious/cultural norms.
  8. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely.
  9. Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.
  10. Performs 2D, Adult Congenital, 3D, AFI (automated frequency imaging), Dyssynchrony, Dobutamine, Bicycle and Treadmill Stress echocardiograms, Transesophageal, and 3D Transesophageal.
  11. Conducts studies of consistently high quality utilizing special skills according to established protocols.
  12. Delineates and records abnormalities and makes appropriate changes in technique as required by specific patient care needs.
  13. Participates in research studies. Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
  14. Utilizes Epic scheduling/patient data charting software, organizes daily schedule, Tele-Tracking/patient transportation, clarifies orders when necessary, follows hospital policy for reporting critical results.
  15. Complies with all department policies and procedures.
  16. Demonstrates compliance with all requirements for safety, infection control, and disaster plan.
  17. Serves as an expert role model in providing quality patient care for internal and external customers with appropriate test/indications selection.
  18. Provides one-on-one training to student technologists, cardiology fellows, and other staff physicians. Knowledge of Merge Cardio operations, local functions and systems function.


Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:
  1. Completion of a two-year Allied Health degree and successful completion of a 12 month CAAHEP approved School of Ultrasound Technology, or Cardiovascular Technology, or equivalent education.
  2. Work requires sufficient education/training to acquire American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) certification in cardiac ultrasound, Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS).
  3. ARDMS/CCI Certification within twelve months of employment.
  4. Required clinical hours to become registry eligible.
  5. Must be knowledgeable and demonstrate competency on current practice of echocardiography: cognitive, technical, interpersonal and communication skills necessary for the performance of adult, geriatric, adolescent echocardiography.

Hours: Full-time, 40 hours/week
