Job summary

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs seeks a Clinical Perfusionist to manage physiologic and metabolic needs of surgical patients on cardiopulmonary bypass or ECMO, with independent perfusion duties under cardiac surgeon direction.

Responsibilities include operating perfusion equipment, ensuring patient safety, and guiding staff and students while adhering to VA and Joint Commission standards.

Qualifications

• Citizenship and English proficiency as required by VA
• Education and certification per perfusion standards (CAAHEP/EQ.-Canada)
• Board certification in clinical perfusion (ABCP) must be current
• Licensure/credentialing preferred but not required
• License eligibility or credential preferred
• Proficiency in English for appointment

Responsibilities

• Perform independent clinical perfusion with cardiopulmonary bypass and ECMO
• Operate, manage, troubleshoot heart-lung machines and life-support systems
• Provide training and guidance to perfusion staff and students
• Ensure compliance with Joint Commission and VA documentation requirements
• Participate in multidisciplinary conferences and quality improvement
• Maintain perfusion equipment readiness and perform QC
• Prepare pharmacologic agents for perfusion casework
• Lead or participate in staff education and safety programs
