Job summary

Virtua Health seeks a skilled perfusionist to join its cardiovascular surgical team. You will operate the heart-lung machine, monitor hemodynamics, manage oxygenation/blood gases, and collaborate with surgeons to ensure patient safety during bypass procedures.

The role requires completion of an accredited perfusion program and board certification or eligibility with ABCP, with certification within two years of graduation. New grads must pass the ABCP exam; on-call work is required.

Qualifications

• Board certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP) or board eligible with certification within two years of graduation.
• Completed training from an accredited perfusion program.
• New grads contingent on passing the ABCP exam.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the heart-lung machine and other critical equipment.
• Monitor patient status, manage blood flow, hemodynamics, temperature, and blood composition.
• Perform pharmacological interventions or blood transfusions as directed by the surgeon.
• Inform the surgical team of patient status throughout the procedure.
• Measure blood parameters to determine intervention strategies and therapies.
• Have thorough knowledge of extracorporeal circulation equipment.
• Consult with the surgeon to select equipment and techniques for surgery.

Board certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP)

Board eligible with plan to become ABCP certified within 2 years

Completion of an accredited perfusion program
