Job description

Job Summary

Geisinger Heart Institute at Geisinger Medical Center (GMC) is seeking a Cardiac Catheterization Technologist. $15,000 signing bonus is available for eligible candidates.

Responsibilities
  • Assist physician with adult and pediatric (location specific) cardiac catheterizations including but not limited to transluminal coronary angioplasty and stenting, rotational atherectomy, temporary pacemaker insertion, pericardiocentesis, myocardial biopsy, Swan‑Ganz catheter insertion, mechanical circulatory support (ECMO, Impella, Protek Duo), percutaneous valvuloplasty, percutaneous valve implantation/repair, peripheral vascular diagnostic and interventional procedures.
  • Practice sterile technique preparing for procedure including scrubbing, applying surgical gown, gloving, draping and setting up instrument table. Responsible for direct care of patient during procedure as well as managing hemostasis during and post‑procedure.
  • Ensure correct order is obtained, patient is properly identified and prepared for exam, and that clinical history is corroborated and documented while respecting confidentiality.
  • Utilize appropriate imaging protocol, optimize technical factors while maximizing patient safety, and apply principles of ALARA.
  • Prepare and/or administer medications through new or existing vascular access site as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Evaluate images for proper positioning and acceptable technical quality and verify archival storage and/or transfer of data, post‑processing if applicable.
  • Educate and monitor students and other health‑care providers.
  • Assist licensed practitioner with fluoroscopic and specialized interventional cardiology procedures.
  • Record, monitor, and assess hemodynamic data collected during procedures.
  • Maintain intra‑arterial access as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Pan the procedure table during image production.
  • Perform manual hemostasis during and after procedure.
  • Operate and ensure quality control of hemodynamic recording devices, cardiac stimulator, oxygen consumption equipment, and blood analysis equipment.
  • Maintain and remove peripherally inserted central catheters as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Initiate ACLS protocols as required for cardiac roles.
  • Participate in ongoing clinical research trials pertinent to the electrophysiology laboratory.

Required Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited cardiovascular technology, Radiologic Technology, or allied health program.
  • RCIS certification required within 3 years of employment.
  • BLS required within 6 months of hire.
  • ACLS required within 6 months of hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support required within 6 months of hire (Geisinger Medical Center campus only).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Radiologic Technologist with active ARRT certification.
  • Respiratory Therapist with at least 2 years of experience.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist with at least 2 years of experience.
Position Details
  • Shifts: Monday – Friday, 7 or 7:30 a.m. start times, 8‑hour shifts.
  • On‑call: 1–2 nights per week and every 4th weekend.
