Job summary

Geisinger is seeking an experienced Cardiovascular Lab Technologist to provide technical assistance during diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterizations, ensuring patient care before, during, and after procedures. You will manage hemostasis and monitor hemodynamics in a fast-paced environment.

Required RCIS and ACLS/BLS/PALS within specified timelines; the role includes training responsibilities and potential involvement in clinical research within Geisinger Medical Center's cardiac

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited cardiovascular technology, Radiologic Technology, or allied health program.
  • RCIS certification required within 3 years of employment.
  • BLS required within 6 months of hire.
  • ACLS required within 6 months of hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support required within 6 months of hire (Geisinger Medical Center campus only)

Responsibilities

  • Assists the physician with adult and pediatric cardiac catheterizations including procedures and techniques listed.
  • Practice of sterile technique preparing for procedure including scrubbing, gowning, gloving, draping and setup of instrument table.
  • Performs emergency therapeutic maneuvers during procedures.
  • Initiates life support techniques in cardiac/respiratory arrest (CPR, defibrillation, temporary pacing, airway management).
  • Assists with ongoing clinical research trials in the cardiac catheterization lab.
  • Records, monitors, and assesses hemodynamic data during catheterizations.
  • Responsible for primary and secondary hemostasis during and after procedure.
  • Operates and maintains quality control of hemodynamic recording devices, fluoroscopy, cine-angiography equipment and related systems.
  • Exhibits knowledge of all related equipment; assists with training of staff and students.
  • Preparation of arterial lines.
  • Performs appropriate billing for services rendered or equipment used in catheterization.
  • Collects and analyzes arterial/venous blood samples including specimens sent to lab and blood gases.

Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range in their assigned laboratory.

Job Duties
  • Assists the physician with adult and pediatric cardiac catheterizations including but not limited to the following procedures and techniques: myocardial biopsy, transluminal coronary angioplasty and stenting, rotational atherectomy, temporary pacemaker insertion, pericardiocentesis, Swan-Ganz catheter insertion, cardiac assist device insertion, percutaneous valvuloplasty, percutaneous valve implantation, peripheral vascular diagnostic and interventional procedures.
  • Practice of sterile technique preparing for procedure including scrubbing, applying surgical gown, gloving, draping and setup of instrument table.
  • Performs emergency therapeutic maneuvers during procedures.
  • Initiates life support techniques in the event of a cardiac and respiratory arrest including CPR, defibrillation, temporary pacemaker insertion and airway management.
  • Assists with ongoing clinical research trials pertinent to the cardiac catheterization laboratory.
  • Records, monitors, and assesses hemodynamic data collected during catheterizations.
  • Responsible for primary and secondary hemostasis during and after procedure.
  • Operates and ensures the quality control of hemodynamic recording devices, fluoroscopy and cine-angiographic x-ray equipment, oxygen consumption equipment, and blood analysis equipment.
  • Exhibits extensive knowledge of all related equipment within the catheterization laboratory.
  • Assists with the training and orientation of students, techs, cardiology fellows, and cardiac catheterization technologists new to the department.
  • Preparation of arterial lines.
  • Performs appropriate billing for services rendered or equipment used as related to cardiac catheterization.
  • Collection and analysis of arterial and venous blood samples including specimens sent to laboratory, blood gases, and saturations.
  • Participates in Joint Commission-mandated educational programs.

Hiring Incentive

This position qualifies for a $15,000 sign-on bonus paid over two years. Certain stipulations do apply.

Required Qualifications

Preferred Backgrounds

While not required, the following backgrounds are preferred or may be considered as related experience:

  • Radiologic Technologist with active ARRT certification
  • Respiratory Therapist with at least two (2) years of experience
  • Certified Surgical Technologist with at least two (2) years of experience

Education

Graduate from Specialty Training Program- (Required), Associate's Degree-Healthcare Related Degree (Preferred)

Experience

Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) within 3 years - Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI); Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification within 6 months - American Heart Association (AHA); Basic Life Support Certification - Default Issuing Body
