Job summary

Geisinger seeks an experienced EP lab professional to perform daily electrophysiology procedures, support pacemaker and ICD implants, and provide comprehensive patient care. The role includes equipment maintenance, emergency maneuver support, and participation in quality programs.

Qualifications include an associate degree in a healthcare field, two years of healthcare experience, and ARRT certification with PALS within six months of hire. A bachelor’s degree is preferred.

  • ARRT certification must be maintained (Radiology Tech).
  • PALS within 6 months of hire (Geisinger Medical Center campus).

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily electrophysiology laboratory procedures including ablations, pacemaker/ICD implants, tilt table tests, DC cardioversions, and intracardiac ultrasound.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot EP lab equipment; calibrate and perform preventive maintenance.
  • Provide emergency therapeutic maneuvers during procedures and initiate life support as needed.
  • Assist physician during procedures and in patient preparation; ensure safe and efficient completion of procedures.
  • Evaluate and analyze pulse generators during pacemaker procedures and pacemaker clinic.
  • Analyze electrocardiographic data using digital systems and paper filing.
  • Maintain sterile technique during procedures and manage instrument setup.
  • Responsible for primary and secondary hemostasis during and after procedures.
  • Participate in quality control/assurance initiatives and Joint Commission education.

Job Duties

  • Performs the daily procedures in the electrophysiology laboratory including radio-frequency catheter ablations, pacemaker implants, ICD implants, tilt table tests, direct current cardioversions, and intracardiac ultrasound- Doppler.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots electrophysiology laboratory equipment to assure operability and safety; calibrates equipment and performs routine preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Performs emergency therapeutic maneuvers during procedures.
  • Initiates life support techniques in the event of a cardiac and respiratory arrest including CPR, defibrillation, temporary pacemaker insertion and airway management.
  • Assists the physician in the preparation of the patient; assists during the procedure; and provides all appropriate services to safely and efficiently complete patient procedures.
  • Provides assistance in evaluation and analysis of pulse generators during pacemaker procedures and pacemaker clinic.
  • Analyzes and files electrocardiographic data utilizing digital computer analysis systems and paper filing systems.
  • Practices sterile technique preparing for procedure including scrubbing, applying surgical gown, gloving, draping and setup of instrument table.
  • Responsible for primary and secondary hemostasis during and after procedure.
  • Participates in departmental quality control and quaity assurance initiatives and Joint Commission-mandated educational programs.
  • Performs appropriate billing for services rendered or equipment used as related to electrophysiology.
  • Assists with the training and orientation within the department.
  • Assists with ongoing clinical research trials pertinent to the electrophysiology laboratory.

Position Details

  • An associate’s degree in a healthcare related field will be accepted for this role in lieu of the specialty training program, but the candidate is required to have at least two years of healthcare experience in addition to their associate's degree.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a health care related field will be accepted for this role in lieu of the specialty training degree, healthcare experience is preferred but not required if candidate has a healthcare related bachelor's degree.
  • Applicants who hold the ARRT certification as a Radiology Tech are required to maintain the ARRT certification.
  • PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 6 months of hire (Geisinger Medical Center campus only).

Hiring Incentive: This position qualifies for a $12,000 sign-on bonus paid over two years. Certain stipulations do apply.
