Job description

Job Summary

Location: Geisinger Medical Center (GMC) – Days shift – 40 scheduled weekly hours – Regular employee, exempt.

We invite you to join the Heart Institute Team at Geisinger Medical Center as a Cardiac Catheterization Technologist. A $15,000 signing bonus is available for eligible candidates.

Responsibilities
  • Assist physicians with adult and pediatric cardiac catheterizations, including transluminal coronary angioplasty and stenting, rotational atherectomy, temporary pacemaker insertion, pericardiocentesis, myocardial biopsy, Swan-Ganz catheter insertion, mechanical circulatory support (ECMO, Impella, Protek Duo), percutaneous valvuloplasty, valve implantation/repair, and peripheral vascular diagnostic and interventional procedures.
  • Prepare for procedures using sterile technique: scrub, gown, glove, drape, and instrument table setup.
  • Provide direct patient care during procedures and manage hemostasis during and after procedures.
  • Ensure correct order of tests, proper identification and preparation of the patient, and accurate documentation while respecting confidentiality.
  • Utilize appropriate imaging protocols, optimize technical factors, and maximize patient safety with application of ALARA principles.
  • Prepare and/or administer medications through new or existing vascular access sites as prescribed.
  • Evaluate images for proper positioning and technical quality; verify archival storage, data transfer, and post-processing when applicable.
  • Educate and monitor students and other healthcare providers; assist licensed practitioners with fluoroscopic and specialized interventional cardiology procedures.
  • Record, monitor, and assess hemodynamic data collected during procedures.
  • Maintain intra-arterial access and supportive equipment including hemodynamic recording devices, cardiac stimulators, oxygen consumption equipment, and blood analysis equipment.
  • Remove peripherally inserted central catheters as prescribed.
  • Initiate ACLS protocols as required for cardiac roles.
  • Participate in ongoing clinical research trials related to the electrophysiology laboratory when necessary.
  • Comply with all Geisinger policies and procedures and fulfill job-specific obligations.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited cardiovascular technology, radiologic technology, or allied health program.
  • RCIS certification (acquired within 3 years of employment).
  • BLS certification (within 6 months of hire).
  • ACLS certification (within 6 months of hire).
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification (within 6 months of hire – Geisinger Medical Center campus only).
  • Preferred backgrounds include active ARRT certification (radiologic technologist), respiratory therapist (≥2 years experience), or surgical technologist (≥2 years experience).
  • Experience with related cardiac or interventional procedures and supportive equipment.
Work Schedule

Shifts: Monday – Friday, 7:00 or 7:30am start times, 8‑hour days. On‑call: 1–2 nights per week and every fourth weekend.
