Job summary

Brown & Brown, Inc. is seeking a Captive Accounting Manager to lead day-to-day accounting for a portfolio of captive insurance companies in Colchester, VT or remotely. You will serve as the focal contact with senior management and clients, shaping strategic and consulting insights.

Responsibilities include GAAP/IFRS reporting, regulatory filings, and coordinating with auditors, actuaries, tax authorities, and TPAs. The role requires 8–12 years of relevant experience and a CPA is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
  • 8–12 years of experience in position with similar duties.
  • Ability to use initiative and good judgement in accomplishing tasks with minimal errors.
  • Must possess critical thinking skills and strong teamwork.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advice on compliance requirements, investment regulations and current accounting developments affecting clients.
  • Give presentations at client, shareholder, and Board meetings to review financial information.
  • Prepare and/or review monthly financial statement packages and management reviews for captive clients in accordance with GAAP, IFRS, SAP and modified GAAP.
  • Maintain captives ledgers, reconciliations and customized financial and managerial reports.
  • Train, supervise, and develop teammates; coordinate with auditors, actuaries, tax authorities, regulators, and bankers.
  • Prepare and/or review regulatory filings, premium tax returns and NAIC filings.
  • Interface with domiciles onshore and offshore (VT, AZ, Bermuda, Cayman, CO, CT, DE, DC, GA, HI, MI, MO, NV, SC).
  • Monitor cash flow, budgets, and ad hoc reports.
  • Work with Acumatica and Velixo to prepare financial statements.

Brown & Brown's Risk Solutions team, formerly known as Beecher Carlson, is looking for a Captive Accounting Manager to join the team in Colchester, VT or remotely.

As an Accounting Manager, you will manage the day-to-day accounting and financial activities of a portfolio of captive insurance companies acting as focal contact person with senior management and our clients, with an opportunity to develop strategic and consulting skills.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Provide advice on compliance requirements, investment regulations and current accounting developments that affect clients Give presentations at client, shareholder, and/or Board of Director meetings to review financial information. Prepare and/or review monthly financial statement package and management review for a group of captive clients, in accordance with GAAP, IFRS, SAP and modified GAAP Perform all accounting necessary for maintaining captive clients, including preparing and/or reviewing all general ledgers, reconciliation and customized financial and managerial reports. Training, oversight and development of teammates. Work with all service providers including but not limited to auditors, actuaries, tax authorities, regulators, investment professionals, lawyers, TPAs and bankers; acting as client point person to organize and coordinate all matters to effectively manage the captive clients. Prepare and/or review regulatory filings, premium tax returns and NAIC filings. Responsible for regulatory interfacing with each domicile - onshore and offshore, consisting of domiciles such as Vermont, Arizona, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Georgia, Hawaii, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, and South Carolina. Responsible or substantive audit review and compliance testing, involving drafting and reviewing of audit reports. Monitor cash flow, prepare budgets and ad hoc reports. Work with multiple accounting systems, including Acumatica and Velixo to prepare financial statements in accordance appropriate accounting basis. Maintain appropriate level of confidentiality of information processed. Follow all company policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field 8-12 years' experience in position with similar duties Ability to use initiative and good judgment in accomplishing tasks with minimal errors. Must possess critical thinking skills. Establish and maintain effective work relationships and to function in a team environment. Excellent listening, interpersonal and customer service skills. Proficiency in use of personal computers, including data entry, word processing and spread sheet applications (Microsoft Office applications).

Preferred: CPA designation Pay Range 120000 - 140000 Annual The pay range provided above is made in good faith and based on our lowest and highest annual salary or hourly rate paid for the role and takes into account years of experience required, geography, and/or budget for the role.
