Job summary

Brown & Brown’s Risk Solutions team is seeking an Accounting Manager for a Colchester, VT area role with remote options. You will manage accounting for captive clients, serve as the focal contact with senior management and clients, and develop strategic consulting skills.

You’ll oversee ledgers, reconciliations, and monthly financial statements, and coordinate with auditors, regulators and tax authorities across multiple domiciles. Strong GAAP/IFRS knowledge and leadership are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
• 8–12 years’ experience in a similar role.
• Ability to use initiative and good judgment with minimal errors.
• Must possess critical thinking skills.
• Establish and maintain effective work relationships in a team.
• Excellent listening, interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Advise on compliance requirements, investment regulations and current accounting developments affecting clients.
• Present at client, shareholder or Board meetings to review financial information.
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements and management reports for captive clients.
• Maintain ledgers, reconciliations and custom financial and managerial reports.
• Train, oversee and develop teammates.
• Coordinate with auditors, actuaries, tax authorities, regulators, investment professionals, lawyers, TPAs and bankers.
• Prepare/regulatory filings, premium tax returns and NAIC filings.
• Interface with domiciles onshore/offshore (VT, AZ, Bermuda, Cayman, etc.).
• Assist with audit reviews and compliance testing.
• Monitor cash flow, prepare budgets and ad hoc reports; use Acumatica/Velixo for statements.
• Maintain confidentiality and follow company policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Brown & Brown’s Risk Solutions team, formerly known as Beecher Carlson, is looking for an Accounting Manager to join the team in Colchester, VT or remotely.

As an Accounting Manager, you will manage the day-to-day accounting and financial activities of a portfolio of captive insurance companies acting as focal contact person with senior management and our clients, with an opportunity to develop strategic and consulting skills. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Provide advice on compliance requirements, investment regulations and current accounting developments that affect clients
• Give presentations at client, shareholder, and/or Board of Director meetings to review financial information. Prepare and/or review monthly financial statement package and management review for a group of captive clients, in accordance with GAAP, IFRS, SAP and modified GAAP
• Perform all accounting necessary for maintaining captive clients, including preparing and/or reviewing all general ledgers, reconciliation and customized financial and managerial reports.
• Training, oversight and development of teammates.
• Work with all service providers including but not limited to auditors, actuaries, tax authorities, regulators, investment professionals, lawyers, TPAs and bankers; acting as client point person to organize and coordinate all matters to effectively manage the captive clients. Prepare and/or review regulatory filings, premium tax returns and NAIC filings.
• Responsible for regulatory interfacing with each domicile – onshore and offshore, consisting of domiciles such as Vermont, Arizona, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Georgia, Hawaii, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, and South Carolina.
• Responsible or substantive audit review and compliance testing, involving drafting and reviewing of audit reports.
• Monitor cash flow, prepare budgets and ad hoc reports. Work with multiple accounting systems, including Acumatica and Velixo to prepare financial statements in accordance appropriate accounting basis.
• Maintain appropriate level of confidentiality of information processed.
• Follow all company policies and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.
