Job summary

SMBC in New York, NY is seeking an Associate to join the Capital Management Oversight within Treasury Risk Management. The role focuses on independent oversight of capital adequacy, regulatory capital, and balance sheet strategy for the Americas, reporting to the Head of Americas Capital Management Oversight.

You will interact with multiple stakeholders, perform capital ratio reviews, and contribute to risk governance while supporting process improvements in a hybrid work model.

Qualifications

• 2+ years capital management, regulatory capital, stress testing, treasury, or risk management experience in large U.S. banks or FBOs.
• Understanding of U.S. regulatory capital requirements.
• Understanding of financial markets and products.

Responsibilities

• Independent oversight of capital ratios and capital adequacy for SMBC entities in the Americas region.
• Execute ongoing review and challenge of capital ratios (CET1, Tier 1, Total Capital, Leverage), RWA, and buffers.
• Prepare and present analyses and reports to senior management.
• Ensure timely escalation of capital management issues and limit breaches to stakeholders.
• Promote enhancement of the second line risk oversight framework.
• Engage with regional regulators on capital risk matters related to the second line function.
• Document and streamline team processes; pursue automation and efficiency.
• Collaborate with first line Treasury functions while maintaining independence.
• Build relationships with business partners and foster risk culture.
