Job summary

Valar Atomics seeks a seasoned Fixed Asset and Project Accounting Manager to lead capitalization policy, CIP tracking, and the end-to-end fixed asset subledger across multiple sites. You will define asset classes, setup projects in our ERP, and ensure proper treatment of capital spend from construction through depreciation, with a focus on audit readiness and scalable processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of accounting experience with construction in progress and fixed assets on capital projects.
• Built and defended a cost allocation methodology that split spend between capital and R&D.
• Set or rewritten capitalization policy with thresholds, eligibility rules, asset classes, and auditor defense.
• Hands-on experience operating fixed asset and project modules in a major ERP system.
• Experience building cost-coding and project hierarchy structures and reconciling to the GL.
• Willing to spend real time on site at the plant.

Responsibilities

• Own the capital versus R&D split for the pilot plant and document the basis, re-testing as design matures.
• Own capitalization policy and defend it through auditor challenges.
• Own the fixed asset and CIP subledger end-to-end, including setup, cost capture, transfers, and depreciation.
• Build and maintain project cost structures so CIP ties to commitments and invoices.
• Drive monthly CIP and fixed asset close with roll-forward, capitalization, and reconciliation.
• Review contractor pay applications and change orders for proper capital treatment with AP/Procurement.
• Establish CapEx governance and budget-to-actual tracking with escalation for overruns.
• Train field leaders on capitalization practices and document processes for audits.
