Job summary

Barnes & Noble College is seeking an Assistant Store Manager in New Orleans to partner with the Store Manager in leading the campus store, delivering an exceptional retail experience for students and faculty. You will develop teams, manage inventory, merchandising, and daily operations to drive sales and campus engagement.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years of retail experience, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role preferred.
• Experience with merchandising, inventory management, visual merchandising, and customer service.
• Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
• Strong customer service, communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
• Organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and multi-tasking abilities in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with retail technology, POS systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily sales floor operations by delivering exceptional customer service and coaching team members.
• Oversee daily store operations with the Store Manager, ensuring standards in merchandising, inventory accuracy, and store presentation.
• Recruit, hire, train, coach, schedule, and develop store team members.
• Drive sales and operations by analyzing trends, managing expenses, and identifying improvement opportunities.
• Build strong relationships with customers, campus partners, and team members; resolve customer concerns professionally.
• Develop expertise across Course Materials, General Merchandise, Café/Convenience, and Trade Books as assigned.
• Support merchandising, stock replenishment, order fulfillment, and transactions to maintain an organized environment.
• Champion a clean, safe, and organized store across all departments.
