Job summary

Barnes & Noble College seeks a General Manager to provide strategic leadership for a high-volume campus store or complex retail operation, delivering exceptional retail experiences that strengthen the campus community.

You'll develop leaders, drive financial performance, and foster partnerships with campus leadership, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and corporate partners to ensure an engaging environment and sustainable growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Retail Management, or a related field.
• 7+ years of progressive retail leadership experience managing high-volume, multi-unit, or complex retail operations.
• Proven ability to develop high-performing leaders and teams that are customer-focused.
• Strong business acumen with experience managing sales, payroll, expenses, inventory, and overall financial performance.
• Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the overall success of a high-volume campus store by driving financial performance, operations, merchandising, and customer experience.
• Recruit, coach, and retain high-performing store managers and teams with effective hiring and performance management.
• Analyze financial performance and operational metrics to identify opportunities and drive continuous improvement.
• Build relationships with campus leadership, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and partners to strengthen the store's presence.
• Ensure compliance with policies, safety standards, and employment laws.
