Job summary

Sloopy's Diner on the Ohio State Campus in Columbus, OH is hiring an experienced Sous Chef to run the line alongside our Chef in a high-volume campus location. This is a hands-on role involving cooking, expediting, and keeping the back of house moving through rush.

You'll lead and train kitchen staff, manage prep lists, and maintain food safety and quality standards while working nights and weekends to align with the academic calendar.

Qualifications

• Prior sous chef, kitchen lead, or senior line cook experience.
• Comfortable on every station and able to jump between them under pressure.
• Knife skills, scratch prep, and a real sense of timing.
• Dependable, on time, and steady when the rush hits.

Responsibilities

• Run the line during service and step in wherever the kitchen needs coverage.
• Support the Chef with prep lists, ordering, and inventory.
• Hold the line on food quality, portioning, and plating standards.
• Lead and train kitchen staff on shift; set the pace and the tone.
• Maintain food safety, sanitation, and temperature logs to health code.
• Open or close the kitchen as scheduled.
