Job summary

Virginia Beach City Public Schools is seeking a Security Assistant to support protective services for students, staff and property. The role reports to the school building administrator and works under the Office of Safe Schools, performing surveillance and building security tasks across assigned locations.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to respond quickly during emergencies.

Qualifications

• Required: High School Diploma or GED.
• Preferred: Some experience working with children.
• Preferred: Prior security or law enforcement experience.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Conduct surveillance of school buildings, grounds and activities.
• Patrol hallways, stairwells, restrooms and parking areas; check doors and entrances.
• Greet, screen and sign-in all visitors as assigned.
• Deterr unauthorized entry and escort trespassers from premises.
• Provide security for after-school, evening or weekend activities on a flexible schedule.
• Escort disruptive students as directed and assist with safety.
• Operate visitor management and alarm sign-in systems; monitor CCTV and radio.
• Assist with fire drills, evacuations and bus loading/unloading as needed.
• Support security during sports events and other activities.
