Howard University is seeking a Security Officer to maintain safety on campus and off-site facilities. You will respond to emergencies, deter criminal activity, and ensure compliance with university rules and DC laws. The role requires vigilance, good judgment, and the ability to work flexible hours.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED with four years of security or law enforcement experience.
• AA degree in criminal justice or related field preferred.
• Must pass physical agility, drug tests and possess firearm commission if required.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergency calls involving criminal activity within the University jurisdiction.
• Detain individuals using force only when necessary to protect life or property.
• Notify suspects of Miranda rights and report incidents to a Patrol Supervisor.
• Control large crowds and assist in evacuations as needed.
• Patrol assigned posts and enforce university and DC laws.
• Prepare reports and appear as a witness when required.
