Job summary

Williams College is seeking a Campus Safety Officer to help build trust and ensure the safety of students, faculty, and staff on campus. You will patrol grounds, respond to emergencies, and apply trauma‑informed communication to resolve incidents while fostering an inclusive living‑learning environment.

The role requires high school diploma or GED, a valid driver's license, the ability to perform physical duties, and excellent judgment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to perform active physical duties including walking/standing, patrolling, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to learn new technology.
• Cultural competency and sensitivity; effective relationships with diverse groups.
• Willingness to assist others with an empathetic approach.

Responsibilities

• Proactively patrol campus grounds to foster trust and relationships.
• Assess and prioritize calls; act as first responder in emergencies.
• Use empathetic, trauma‑informed communication to de‑escalate disputes.
• Encourage compliance with policies through engagement rather than punishment.
• Conduct preliminary inquiries and document incident logs with CAD/report tools.
• Support dispatch operations and onboarding of new personnel.
