Job summary

San Francisco State University is seeking a Reading, Writing & Academic Support Tutor for the Tutoring and Academic Support Center (TASC) for Spring 2027. This on-site, part-time position involves helping students build reading, writing, and study skills through scheduled appointments and drop-ins.

Tutors receive paid training, with weekly Friday sessions and a full staff workshop before the semester. You will work 8–20 hours weekly and may extend into the following semester upon review.

Qualifications

• Current SFSU student enrolled at least half time (6 units for undergrad / 4 units for grad).
• GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• For undergrads: Must have taken or be currently enrolled in a GWAR class.
• Able to work both in person and online.
• Graduating in Fall 2027 or later (TASC cannot hire anyone in their final semester.)

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one appointments and drop-in sessions to develop reading, writing, oral communication, and academic study skills across all majors.
• As peer educators and campus leaders, contribute to tutoring, training, collaboration, and reflective practices that strengthen communication, teamwork, critical thinking, professionalism, equity and inclusion.
• Receive paid training: weekly Friday session (11-1), mandatory pre-semester workshop, and asynchronous trainings.
• After first semester, may serve as an embedded tutor or lead on outreach, workshops, and special projects.
