Job summary

Johns Hopkins University Public Safety seeks a motivated University Special Police Sergeant to supervise staff, enforce rules, and ensure campus security. The role entails coordinating shifts, evaluating performance, and providing crime prevention training to the campus community.

The candidate will manage equipment and security systems, conduct daily briefings, and liaise with law enforcement while performing duties as needed. Occasional overtime and weekend shifts are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2+ years of progressively responsible supervisory experience in public safety/law enforcement.
• Must possess CPSI Campus and University Special Police certification or willing to attend CPSI academy.
• Must pass university background investigation and health/fitness screenings.
• Ability to obtain DC University Special Police Officer license and handgun permit.

Responsibilities

• Supervise public safety staff and contract security.
• Enforce departmental rules and regulations governing officers’ performance and disciplinary actions.
• Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and regulations.
• Prepare performance evaluations of subordinates.
• Monitor CCTV and alarm systems and respond to alerts.
• Lead shift coordination and ensure adequate coverage for events and staffing needs.
• Provide crime prevention training and education to the campus community.
• Maintain security devices and report equipment needs.
