Job summary

Babson College's Public Safety Department invites applications for a Police Sergeant of Public Safety. The role supervises Police Officers and Community Service Officers, coordinates patrols, manages records, and ensures compliance with Massachusetts law and Babson College policies.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree or higher; Chief approval with equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of full-time police officer experience.
• Graduation from a certified police academy (Massachusetts).
• Current firearms instruction and qualification.
• Hepatitis B vaccination; OSHA compliance.
• Strong knowledge of Babson College rules and public safety policies.
• Ability to manage emergencies and maintain control under pressure.
• Strong written and verbal communication; leadership and teamwork.
• Familiarity with CJIS, IMC and access control systems.
• Commitment to community engagement and public safety principles.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Police Officers and Community Service Officers.
• Maintain records, logs, and incident reports; document misconduct appropriately.
• Patrol campus and respond to emergencies and disturbances.
• Coordinate follow-up investigations and briefing with supervisors.
• Mentor and develop subordinates; communicate trends and performance.
• Lead crime prevention and community engagement initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with laws, college policies, and safety procedures.
• Prepare and present written reports to superiors.
• Oversee scheduling, training, and special assignments.
• Collaborate with campus departments to maintain safety and order.
