Job summary

St.-John's Queens campus seeks an Assistant Director, Public Safety Operations to own daily operations, staffing standards, and event security planning. You will supervise officers, approve staffing models, and coordinate with dispatch and partners to ensure safety and service delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience may be considered per University practice.
• Significant experience in public safety/security operations.
• Supervisory experience with staffing, deployment, coaching, and performance management.
• Experience planning or overseeing events, special operations, or risk-based operational deployments.
• Demonstrated ability to make sound operational decisions under pressure and coordinate across multiple stakeholders.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to document plans, inspections, and follow-up actions.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day Queens campus operations, staffing coverage, and redeployment.
• Define, maintain, and implement event risk tiers, planning templates, staffing models, and communications expectations.
• Provide direct supervision, coaching, and performance expectations for assigned staff.
• Conduct frequent and random post inspections to verify staffing, readiness, and adherence to post expectations.
• Support emergency response coordination and provide command-level updates to leadership.
• Coordinate with stakeholders on event planning inputs and execution readiness and provide concise updates on staffing and operational trends.
