Job summary

St. John’s University seeks a Per - Diem Public Safety Officer to safeguard students, faculty and visitors across multiple campuses. Officers respond to emergencies, conduct field investigations, and support campus security operations with patrols, access control and parking enforcement.

Requirements include a High School diploma, NY Fire Guard license within six months, NYS Security Guard license, and CPR/First Aid certification. Weekend and holiday shifts are expected as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years security experience.
• New York State Fire Guard License to be obtained within six months of employment; must be renewed every two years.
• Candidate must possess a High School diploma or equivalent; college degrees preferred.
• Must hold NYS Security Guard License and a clean motor vehicle operator’s license.

Responsibilities

• Respond to all calls for assistance including crimes in progress, past crimes, vehicle accidents, injuries, medical and aided cases, fires, alarms, and render aid as required.
• Render first aid, CPR and utilize Automated External Defibrillator.
• Operate a patrol vehicle safely in high pedestrian areas.
• Conduct field investigations and prepare reports on violations of law and University policy.
• Engage with campus departments to check on needs or security concerns.
• Patrol posts on foot, bicycle, scooter, or motor patrol vehicle; participate in crime prevention activities.
• Direct traffic and enforce campus parking regulations; perform access control and secure buildings.
