  • Establish and maintain a close partnership with school administrators, students, educators and staff to support a safe, respectful and positive school environment.
  • Initiate and cultivate positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and other visitors.
  • Oversee and monitor student behavior by walking hallways, campus grounds, locker rooms, cafeteria and other common areas to ensure orderly progression to classes and activities.
  • Prepare documentation (e.g. incident reports, security logs) for written support and communication.
  • Intervene to de-escalate potential conflicts and minimize disruptions to campus activities and safety.
  • Refer incidents to appropriate site personnel for follow‑up in accordance with guidelines.
  • Report observations/ incidents to administrative personnel for follow‑up action.
  • Respond to emergency situations addressing immediate safety concerns.
  • Routinely inspect and report campus conditions and status throughout the day.
  • Be present, friendly, and visible on campus.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development and training.
  • Alert administration to potential problems in the school community.
  • Abide by confidentiality and privacy requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned by the building principal.

Job Description

JOB GOAL: The Campus Monitor oversees students between assigned periods within a variety of school environments for the purpose of supporting a positive school climate and culture. The Campus Monitor is responsible for supporting students to meet behavioral expectations in school buildings and on school grounds, such as hallways, library, cafeteria, athletic fields, and other common areas. The Campus Monitor reinforces the behavioral expectations of students through positive interactions and relationship-building, and applies standards of student conduct as established in the Student Handbook.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal or Designee

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D;
  • Possess or attain American Red Cross (or similar), CPR / First Aid certification;
  • Possess or attain de-escalation techniques and restraint (i.e. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification (available through district training);
  • Experience in working with youth in a school or youth organization setting.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Establish and maintain a close partnership with school administrators, students, educators and staff in order to support a safe, respectful and positive school environment;
  • Initiate and cultivate positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and other visitors;
  • Oversee and monitor student behavior by walking hallways, campus grounds, locker rooms, cafeteria and other common areas to ensure students are proceeding to their classes and/or activities in an orderly manner;
  • Prepare documentation (e.g. incident and activity reports, security logs, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information;
  • Intervene in potential conflicts for the purpose of de-escalation, and minimizing disruptions of campus activities and/or injury to involved parties;
  • Refer incidents to appropriate site personnel (e.g. injuries, altercations, suspicious activities, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring follow‑up in accordance with administrative guidelines;
  • Report observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of handbook, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate administrative personnel for follow‑up action;
  • Respond to emergency situations for the purpose of addressing immediate safety concerns;
  • Routinely inspect and report campus conditions and status throughout the day;
  • Consistently address student behavior expectations in a positive and effective manner;
  • Be present, friendly, and visible on campus;
  • Commit to ongoing professional development and training;
  • Alert school administration to potential problems in the school community;
  • Abide by all confidentiality and privacy requirements;
  • Other duties as assigned by the building principal.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; stand; with minimal time sitting. Requires sufficient arm, hand, and finger dexterity in order to operate keyboard, and other office equipment. Requires visual acuity to read words, numbers. Requires ambulatory ability to go to different locations. Requires the ability to take precautions against a nominal exposure to health and safety risks. Requires speaking and hearing to communicate in person or over the phone. Requires the ability to walk, bend, stoop, and perform repetitive arm and shoulder motions with moderate exertion.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a non‑affiliated position. Hours per week determined by Principal. Work year is 180 days to coincide when school is in session. Building principal will assign work schedule between the hours of 6:45am to 5:00pm.
