Job summary

George Mason University is seeking a Building Services Technician to support daily operation, maintenance, and upkeep of Student Centers facilities, including the Johnson Center, The Hub, and Student Union Building I. You will perform skilled maintenance across carpentry, painting, plumbing, and general repairs to keep spaces safe and welcoming.

The role requires safe operation of tools, reliable inventory management, and collaboration with building services staff.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of basic carpentry skills, methods, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of general maintenance methods, equipment, and tools.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work on ladders.
  • Must possess an active, valid driver’s license and be willing to undergo MVR review per university policy.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance and preventive tasks across Student Centers facilities.
  • Carry out carpentry, painting, plumbing, and general repairs to keep spaces safe, functional, and presentable.
  • Install, relocate, and secure building fixtures, furnishings, signage, and related equipment.
  • Perform routine electrical maintenance and replace non‑complex components.
  • Inspect facilities and complete work orders promptly with professional documentation.
  • Maintain inventory of materials and operate CMMS and related records.
  • Assist with room setup, event support, and post‑event restoration.
