Job summary

The University of Scranton is seeking a General Mechanic to perform minor electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and carpentry work for campus buildings. The role includes snow removal duties and trash removal in residence halls, with an early start in winter.

Essential duties include repairing plumbing fixtures, electrical devices, carpentry tasks, moving furniture, custodial support, and assisting with move-in days and commencements. It is essential personnel.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in care and maintenance of similar facilities.
• Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Perform minor repairs and/or replacement of plumbing fixtures, valves and other devices as required.
• Perform minor repairs and/or replacements of electrical fixtures, devices and appliances as required.
• Perform minor carpentry work to repair windows, doors, hardware, screens and furniture and event setups, as needed.
• Will be diverted from normal duties to help with performing and/or direct snow plowing and ice removal, salting and clearing of areas of all snow, with an early start (5 a.m. or 6 a.m.) as determined by weather forecasted
• Will be responsible for the removal of all University residential hall trash; also, the mechanic will remove trash from student resident apartments, as needed on weekends
• Assists with first year student move-in day activities, and commencement setup on or off campus as assigned
• Custodial work including cleaning of all university areas, on an emergency basis, as needed
• Setup and move furniture in student rooms, lounges and other support spaces in the University, as needed.
