Job summary

Slippery Rock University seeks a Maintenance Repairman 1 to perform semi-skilled maintenance across building, electrical and mechanical trades. Responsibilities include assisting with HVAC, plumbing, welding, and equipment repairs while following safety protocols and supervision.

The role requires the ability to lift heavy objects, tolerate adverse conditions, and work a daytime to possible evening shift. Two years’ general maintenance experience or equivalent is preferred.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and practices used in at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades involved.
• Ability to use and maintain the tools and equipment of the trades involved.
• Ability to perform tasks requiring mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to lift and move heavy objects and to work under adverse weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Opens blocked drains, assists HVAC staff with installation of pipes as needed.
• Assists with general fabrication and repairs involving welding, brazing or soldering.
• Assists trades and HVAC staff with maintenance and repairs, including pumps, motors, fans, and related equipment.
• Lubricates, adjusts and maintains electrical motors and pumps.
• Assists with cleaning and maintaining air intake screens and exhausts.
• Support Maintenance Repairman 2’s with preventative maintenance of campus HVAC equipment.
• Performs minor repairs and adjustments to laundry and custodial equipment.
