Job summary

Texas Southmost College seeks a Technical Director to lead campus-wide IT infrastructure, security, and operations. You will oversee data centers, networks, cloud services, and end-user computing, while directing a team of IT professionals and coordinating with executive leadership.

You will drive strategic IT initiatives, ensure regulatory compliance, and manage budgets and vendors. The role requires strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving in a higher-education environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Cybersecurity, or related field (or 5–7 years in IT, higher ed/public sector a plus).
• Proven IT leadership with staff development experience.
• Experience with security architecture, incident response, and cloud services.
• Knowledge of FERPA, HIPAA, HITECH, GDPR, PCI Compliance or similar regulations.
• Ability to lead and communicate effectively with diverse teams.
• Willingness to work evenings or weekends when required.

Responsibilities

• Lead IT infrastructure engineering and operations teams.
• Develop and execute IT strategy aligned to College objectives.
• Oversee budgeting for IT infrastructure and projects.
• Ensure IT security, compliance, and disaster recovery readiness.
• Coordinate with VPIT, CISO, and EDA on strategic IT initiatives.
• Implement change management and project management best practices.
• Hires, trains, and evaluates IT staff; manages vendor relationships.
• Provide regular updates to senior leadership on IT performance and security.
