Job summary

Widener University is seeking a Locksmith/Mechanic to join Facilities Management. This role performs maintenance, operations, and repairs of campus building systems, with emphasis on doors, locks, life-safety, and building envelopes. It may require weekend and off-hours work and supports campus locksmith functions.

The position reports to the Assistant Director for Buildings and Grounds and emphasizes safe, attractive, well-maintained environments to support academic mission and daily operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid driver’s license with proof of insurability.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in building maintenance or related trade.
• Minimum 5 years of locksmithing experience.
• Completion of formal training/licensure in a trade.
• Certified Registered Locksmith (CRL) designation from ALOA or approved equivalent.
• Proficiency in preventive maintenance, meter reading, and emergency system shutdowns.
• Knowledge of building construction, utilities, life safety systems, and inspection techniques.
• Ability to read and interpret technical documents and safety codes.
• Basic skills in Microsoft Windows and Outlook.
• Strong communication skills and customer service orientation.

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair building systems and equipment.
• Inspect buildings and roofs and perform preventive maintenance.
• Carry out carpentry, masonry, painting, plumbing, electrical, HVAC tasks as needed.
• Read blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams; interpret technical docs.
• Install, maintain, and repair locks and related components campus-wide.
• Assist with furniture, event setups, and emergency response operations.
