  • Some experience with door hardware and installation is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to learn and safely operate locksmith tools and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, and maintain mechanical security hardware, including door locks, desk and file cabinet locks, door closers, mortise locks, exit devices, and other door hardware.
  • Cut keys by duplication and code while assisting with key blank identification and core keying.
  • Change lock combinations and service small‑format interchangeable cores.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on locking systems to ensure long‑term reliability and proper function.
  • Assist senior locksmiths with lock installations, repairs, and master key system work across campus.
  • Learn and operate locksmithing equipment, including key machines, code machines, and keypunches.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical locking hardware issues and assist in diagnosing system failures.
  • Conduct initial situational assessments to identify the cause of malfunctioning locks or door hardware.
  • Track work orders, document service requests, and provide status updates using the AiM work order system.
  • Coordinate with faculty, staff, vendors, and shop personnel to complete assigned work orders and projects.
  • Assist with ordering materials and coordinating supplies needed for installations and repairs.
  • Complete assigned work within established timelines to support project schedules and budget expectations.
  • Maintain the locksmith shop by assisting with organization, cleaning, and proper tool care.
  • Support emergency response efforts and perform critical role duties when needed to maintain facility security.
  • Verify work accuracy and ensure installations meet safety standards, building codes, and university requirements.
  • Participate in ongoing training and demonstrate a willingness to learn emerging security technologies.
  • Assist with project closeouts and coordinate follow‑up communication with customers after work completion.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and the general public, and follow verbal and written instructions related to work assignments and operational needs.
  • Perform lifting duties up to 30 pounds frequently and 60 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodations.
