Job summary

The Mittleman Jewish Community Center (MJCC) and Portland Jewish Academy (PJA) seek a Facilities Manager to lead on our 9.4 acre campus and 125,000 square foot building. This hands‑on role ensures safety, welcoming spaces, and readiness for daily operations and major events, guiding the Maintenance team and coordinating custodial work and contractors.

You will oversee OSHA compliance, partner with security, manage budgets, SOPs, and schedules, while fostering teamwork across both organizations.

Qualifications

• 3 to 5 years of facilities and custodial operations experience, including supervisory roles.
• Deep knowledge of facility maintenance, mechanical systems, custodial standards, and OSHA compliance/workplace safety.
• Ability to build, lead, and mentor teams in a collaborative environment.
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills across diverse staff and community members.
• Proficiency with basic computer software (email, word processing, spreadsheets).
• Willingness to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Oversee maintenance, repair, and operation of building systems (HVAC, electrical, life safety, pool systems).
• Develop schedules, manage daily maintenance requests, and set project timelines.
• Coordinate daily operations for Maintenance Team and custodial contractors.
• Manage external contractors for renovations and HVAC projects.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations (OSHA, fire/life safety, chemical protocols).
• Lead SOP development, operating budgets, and long-range facility plans.
• Communicate facility needs and events with leadership; mentor staff.
