Job summary

Chartwells Higher Education, part of Compass Group USA, seeks a Director of Dining Services to lead on-site operations at Eastern Michigan University Dining Services. You will drive client satisfaction, ensure safe, high-quality food service, manage budgets, and lead a diverse team of managers and associates.

The role emphasizes operational excellence, cost controls, sanitation, and HACCP/OSHA compliance, with responsibilities across retail, catering, and catering-related activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in food services/management or related field.
• 5–7 years of direct foodservice operational management experience.
• Strong knowledge of food and catering trends, quality, sanitation, and cost controls.
• Prior P&L accountability or contract-managed service exposure is desirable.
• Strong supervisory and leadership skills with coaching ability.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills across levels.

Responsibilities

• Manages salaried managers and hourly associates in the Food Service Department.
• Oversees the direction, coordination, and evaluation of the account.
• Interviews, hires, trains, and directs staff; handles performance and conduct.
• Prepares and manages annual budget.
• Utilizes company systems for reports (inventory, payroll, etc.).
• Oversees food/service preparation per standards and HACCP/OSHA guidelines.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
