Job summary

Wake County Public School System is seeking a dedicated Custodian to ensure the sanitation, cleaning and maintenance of an entire school facility, including floors, restrooms, windows, and outdoor walkways. The role requires routine maintenance on equipment and timely reporting of repairs and safety concerns.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED, can lift up to 50 pounds, follows safety protocols, and participates in required trainings.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Required WCPSS trainings which will be provided post-employment.
Knowledge of standard custodial methods, cleaning procedures and materials.
Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
Strong communication skills, in writing and verbally.
Commitment to safety and reporting repairs or hazards.
Ability to establish positive working relationships with staff and students.

Responsibilities

Ensures entire school/facility is sanitized, cleaned, and maintained (floors, restrooms, waste disposal, windows, etc.).
Moves and arranges furniture as needed.
Performs minor or preventative maintenance on custodial equipment; reports repairs and safety concerns.
Opens or secures buildings and manages lighting at start/end of day.
Maintains reliable attendance and punctuality.
Responds to after-hour emergencies and adverse weather as required.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
