Job summary

Barnes & Noble College in Jersey City, NJ is seeking an Assistant Store Manager to support daily store operations and help drive sales. You will supervise team members, assist customers on the floor, and partner with the Store/General Manager to meet goals while maintaining excellent service.

The role requires at least 3 years in retail, some supervisory experience, and a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends. NJ pay transparency applies and additional benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• 3+ years’ experience in a retail setting.
• 1+ year supervisory experience preferred or a graduate of the Best Seller Program.
• High school diploma/GED preferred.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Familiarity with financial and customer service principles.
• Basic reading, writing and accounting skills required.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills needed.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Support all store operations and departments in partnership with the Store Manager or General Manager.
• Direct work activities for team members to ensure delivery of services, sales, and customer service.
• Greet customers, assist with purchases, and maintain a helpful sales floor presence.
• Manage customer and/or employee issues promptly and respectfully.
• Assist with hiring and training new employees for the sales floor or other departments.
• Maintain an appealing sales floor—shelf, arrange, clean, and organize products.
• Assist with processing sales transactions involving cash, credit, or financial aid payments.
