Job summary

YMCA in Wisconsin is seeking a Summer and Family Program Director to organize and implement camp and family programs, lead day-to-day operations, and ensure safety and quality. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Recreation Management or Business Management preferred.
• 2–4 years of experience in camping services programming.
• Strong critical-thinking and workload-prioritization skills.
• Excellent communication skills tailored to diverse audiences.
• Proficiency with spreadsheets, word processing, and quick learning of software.
• Knowledge of ACA and aquatic safety standards.
• CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required; lifeguard certification preferred (training provided).
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record and boating license.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safe program environments by monitoring camper and staff behavior and enforcing safety procedures.
• Recruit, hire, onboard, train, develop, engage, and retain summer camp staff.
• Collaborate with the Camp Director to monitor budgets and align programming with financial goals.
• Respond to emergencies with first response, documentation, and preventative measures.
• Build relationships with staff, campers, and parents through clear communication.
• Lead marketing efforts for summer and family programs (events, brochures, social media).
• Design and implement innovative program activities based on camper input and trends.
• Assist fundraising initiatives with program materials and donor events.
• Plan, staff, and evaluate summer and family programs, coordinating logistics.
• Communicate with parents via emails, surveys, and welcome materials.
• Develop policies aligned with ACA accreditation and state licensing.
• Prepare itineraries and oversee trip staff for overnight trips.
• Support outdoor education programs and lead camp cleanup after programs.
