Job summary

The Salvation Army USA Western Territory is seeking a Camp Cook to prepare high-quality meals for campers in a timely, nutritious manner at our Nevada City area camp.

You will lead kitchen staff, manage inventory, ensure compliance with health codes, and support the Food Service Manager in menu planning and rentals. This on-site position requires ability to work with large groups and maintain a clean, safe kitchen environment.

Qualifications

• Education: Some college, vocational training or comparable job experience in food service.
• Skills: cook meals for large groups (up to 300) with calmness and organization.
• Physical requirements: ability to lift up to 25 pounds and stand for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and supervise kitchen staff in meal preparation.
• Ensure meals and snacks are ready on schedule.
• Train kitchen staff as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety in the kitchen.
• Manage inventory and food storage according to health codes.
• Order food and assist in menu planning.
• Secure kitchen after events and report repairs.
• Attend staff meetings when scheduled.
• Assist Camp Director with food service operations.
• Ensure safe handling of leftovers and waste.
