Position Overview

The Cage Cashier is responsible for handling transactions with both external and internal customers involving a variety of cash and cash equivalents. The Cashier provides the highest level of guest service at all times. All duties are to be performed within the guidelines of Mount Airy Casino Resort policies and procedures, Internal Control Standards and objectives.

Essential Job Functions
  • Responsible for safeguarding company assets at all times.
  • Responsible for providing exceptional guest service.
  • Use a variety of equipment, including but not limited to computers, coin and currency counters, carts, racks, etc.
  • Cash personal checks, utilizing check guaranteeing service.
  • Maintain, fill and service Ticket Redemption Units (TRUs).
  • Cashiers are expected to balance their banks on a daily basis and to meet all company and departmental standards of accuracy and accountability.
  • Assist the Slot department in the payment of jackpots and the completion of tax documents.
  • Comply with Title 31 at all times.
  • Conduct transactions with guests and other departments.
  • Remain thoroughly knowledgeable of all appropriate regulations.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all gaming records and financial information concerning the company.
  • Work closely with employees of other gaming and non-gaming departments.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to all patrons and communicate in a pleasant, friendly and professional manner at all times. Maintains a professional work environment.
  • Prepares financial documents and reports for the use of Accounting and Senior Management.
  • Meet the attendance guidelines of the job and adhere to regulatory, departmental and company policies.
  • Attend all necessary training meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age or older upon employment.
  • High school diploma or its equivalency required.
  • Twelve (12) months of previous cashier or money handling experience is preferred.
  • Retail cashiering experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge/operational skills of coin counter and currency counters a plus.
  • Must be able to operate office equipment, including a 10-key adding machine, PC computers, fax machine and photo copier.
  • Previous customer service experience preferred.
Language Skills and Reasoning Ability
  • Must possess excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to write routine correspondence and to speak effectively to the public, employees and customers.
  • Must have the ability to deal effectively and interact well with the customers and employees.
  • Must have the ability to resolve problems/conflicts in a diplomatic and tactful manner.

  • Must be able to stand, walk, and move through all areas of the casino.
  • Continuously bend/stoop, squat, balance, kneel, bend, lift and push/pull.
  • Continuously carry up to twenty-five (25) pounds, and lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Occasionally climb heights and reach above shoulder level.
  • Maintain physical stamina and proper mental attitude to work under pressure in a fast‑paced, casino environment and effectively deal with customers, management, employees, and members of the business community in all situations.
Other Skills / Abilities
  • Must be able to function well in a noisy casino environment.
  • Must be able to work in an environment where smoking is permitted.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English. Must be able to respond to visual and verbal cues.
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays.
