Job summary

Shelby County Schools is seeking a cafeteria worker to assist the School Nutrition Supervisor in preparing and serving nutritious meals for students and staff in a clean, safe environment.

The role involves following menus, preparing ingredients, cleaning and sanitizing work areas, and may include cashier duties at a POS terminal. A high school diploma or GED, background check, TB test, and 6 months of food prep experience are required.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Background check required and TB test negative.
• Six months of quantity food preparation or related experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs duties involved in preparation of food items for student and staff meals, including reading recipes, assembling ingredients, cooking, serving, and clean up; may assemble bag lunches and snacks for school programs.
• Monitors cooking times and temperatures to ensure consumer safety per HACCP; maintains cleanliness of preparation areas, storerooms, freezers, refrigerators, and equipment.
• Sets up serving lines, maintains cleanliness of serving area, and ensures use of proper serving utensils and portions.
• Maintains sanitation of equipment, food prep and serving areas, and proper storage of utensils and cookware.
• Assists in stocking supplies and monitors inventory; rotates food products as scheduled.
• May serve as cashier and operate a point-of-sale terminal; complies with district, school, and health department policies and safety standards.
