The Cafeteria Worker performs a variety of food service duties related to the safe preparation, assembly, distribution, and service of meals for hospital patients, visitors, and staff. This position plays a key role in maintaining a clean, safe, and customer-focused dining environment while supporting daily food service operations.
Attend department meetings, monthly in-services, and required training sessions. Provide excellent customer service by anticipating and responding to customer needs and resolving issues in a timely manner. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of work areas, equipment, and food service stations. Demonstrate a positive, professional, and team-oriented attitude. Adhere to all HACCP and food safety standards. Notify supervisors of concerns, discrepancies, equipment issues, or product shortages. Support department goals focused on operational excellence and customer satisfaction. Work in various areas including tray line, cafeteria, and kitchen operations. Set up, stock, and replenish food stations for meal service. Assemble patient meal trays and serve food and beverages to customers. Deliver and retrieve patient meal trays as assigned. Clean and sanitize stations, equipment, and floors after meal service. Operate department equipment including dish machines and trash compactors. Perform general cleaning duties such as mopping floors and maintaining sanitary conditions. Assist with food preparation for patient tray line and cafeteria operations. Complete assigned sanitation and deep-cleaning projects. Assist with orientation, training, and cross-training of employees.
High School Diploma or GED preferred. Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Previous food service, cafeteria, restaurant, hospitality, healthcare, or customer service experience preferred.
Demonstrates a commitment to I C.A.R.E. standards and exceptional customer service. Ability to read and understand menu items and food service instructions in English (except where position-specific exceptions apply). Ability to communicate effectively in English. Strong customer service and interpersonal skills. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Ability to safely push and transport carts, trucks, food trays, and supplies. Knowledge of proper sanitation, cleanliness, and food safety practices. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy serving others, working in a team environment, and contributing to a positive dining experience for patients, visitors, and staff.
