Job summary

General Motors LLC seeks a CAE Engineer to support piston structures and durability within Global Virtual Engineering. You will convert engineering questions into physics-based analysis and clear design decisions, executing moderate-scope work and partnering with program teams, suppliers, and virtual-analysis specialists.

The role helps GM make earlier, higher-confidence decisions on piston hardware by combining structural CAE, risk-based evaluation, and reusable capability development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; equivalent experience considered.
• Experience applying CAE/FEA to structural, durability, thermal-structural problems.
• Ability to work independently and communicate results clearly to engineers and leadership.
• Experience defining inputs/boundaries, evaluating model quality, interpreting results.

Responsibilities

• Lead piston structural and durability evaluations from problem definition through recommendation.
• Assess performance under thermal, mechanical, inertia, pressure, bore-distortion, clearance conditions.
• Use fast screening methods for broad options and high-fidelity models for critical decisions.
• Diagnose non-routine issues and propose design or analysis improvements.
• Link analysis to DFMEA and qualification evidence to support risk reduction.
• Prepare concise, traceable analysis reports and decision packages.
