Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Chicago, IL is seeking a Drafting Intern to revise existing drawings and prepare basic component drawings from instructions or sketches. You will learn drafting standards and contribute to project work across market segments.

This internship supports opportunities across markets, with assignments varying by market and location. Ideal candidates are enrolled in CAD/Engineering Technology programs, have a 3.0 GPA, and possess strong verbal and written communication skills.

Qualifications

• Pursuit of certificate, Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in CAD, Engineering Technology, or related degree.
• Currently enrolled in a post-secondary education or technical program related to the work.
• Minimum GPA 3.0 strongly preferred.
• Prior internship or related consulting experience preferred.
• Active involvement in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
• Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.

Responsibilities

• Drafting interns revise existing drawings and prepare drawings of basic components from explicit verbal or written instructions or detailed sketches.
• This position plots drawings; learns and follows company and client drafting standards and procedures.
• Learns practices of a selected discipline; performs duties as assigned.
