Job summary

American Electric Power seeks a Designer to perform CAD drafting and related clerical duties. You will create, revise and maintain engineering drawings, and help manage facilities and equipment documents according to AEP requirements.

You will gather information from sketches, field notes and catalogs, perform calculations, and collaborate with other company groups to ensure safety and efficiency. Training and adherence to safety and compliance policies are expected.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in AAS CAD or in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering technology, or relevant equivalent experience/education.
  • Equivalent experience without AAS: high school graduate and 4 years of electric utility drafting/CDT work.

Responsibilities

  • Create, revise and maintain engineering and record drawings, sketches.
  • Support creation, revision and maintenance of facilities and equipment documents and records.
  • Obtain information from sketches, field notes and vendors' catalogs to perform work.
  • Perform mathematical calculations required to accomplish assigned work.
  • Proficient in CAD software and in Microsoft Office.
  • Coordinate with other Company groups to ensure safe and efficient work.
  • Read vendor prints and equipment operating instructions and incorporate into work.
  • Assist in training AEP employees in basic skills of the position.
