Job summary

Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a C2 Concept Modeling Simulation and Analysis Engineer to translate operational concepts into simulation scenarios and run engagement‑level analyses using the AFSIM core framework.

You will extend AFSIM’s C++ architecture, integrate data pipelines, and support V&V with real‑world data and external models across a collaborative team in a defense‑oriented environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 1+ year of progressive experience with AFSIM developing models and performing analysis.
  • Strong scripting and programming skills in C++, Python, or MATLAB.
  • Experience with DevSecOps toolchains (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Terraform, Ansible, Docker, Kubernetes, SAST/DAST tools).
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas with government civilians, military officers, and contractors.
  • Active Secret clearance and ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance; U.S. citizenship.
  • Knowledge of a DoD C2 system (Navy or MDA preferred).
  • Strong verbal and written communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Translate operational concepts into simulation scenarios to analyze outcomes and provide insights.
  • Develop, configure, and execute engagement-level simulation analyses using the AFSIM core framework.
  • Extend AFSIM’s C++ architecture to interface with Python or MATLAB data pipelines.
  • Support integration of real-world data, threat representations, and external models into simulations.
  • Develop and maintain scenario definitions, input files, and scripting for rapid exploration of design alternatives.
  • Perform verification and validation of models against reference data or higher-fidelity tools.
  • Conduct simulation runs, analyze outputs, and generate visualizations or metrics for decision-making.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and document methodologies for reproducibility.
  • Contribute to documentation, user guides, and knowledge sharing within the team.
