Job Title: Butcher
Pay Grade: Non-Exempt
Major Department: Meat/Seafood
Reports to: Department Manager, Store Manager
Job Summary:

Meat & Seafood Team Members are responsible for providing customers with exceptional service. They advise and prepare orders at the service counter or for self-service displays. They ensure high standards in receiving, unloading, storage, rotating, merchandising, and display building within their department. They serve as role models, exemplifying Pete’s Four Pillars of Value: Aesthetic, Quality, and Customer Service.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
  1. Stock meat cases, including presentation, facing, filling, and organization according to department schematics, ensuring tag and price accuracy.
  2. Maintain cleanliness of meat aisles, storage, and work areas, including cleaning shelves, floors, and removing hazards.
  3. Monitor the rotation of meat products, paying attention to expiration dates.
  4. Assist customers with inquiries, purchases, and product information, promoting cross-selling.
  5. Receive, inspect, and log shipments, ensuring accuracy of shipment, temperature, and quality.
  6. Operate equipment such as knives, scales, wrappers, and pallet jacks safely.
  7. Maintain proper temperatures during production of meat and seafood products.
  8. Cut, tray, package, and label meat and seafood products required for the day.
  9. Organize and rotate products in coolers and freezers.
  10. Use scales and measures accurately; package and wrap products following dating procedures.
  11. Prepare specialty meat and seafood products according to Pete's standards.
  12. Follow safety practices, including using mesh gloves when handling knives.
  13. Participate in inventory preparation and maintain high product knowledge.
  14. Ensure the department is organized, sanitary, and clean at all times.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent; 2+ years in grocery retail, preferably in Meat.
  • Completion of journeyman cutter or apprenticeship preferred.
  • Customer service-oriented with excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multitask, and prioritize.
  • Knowledge of health regulations, math, weights, measures, and meat machinery.
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 75 lbs., and work in cold environments.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:

Must be able to stand, bend, climb, and work in coolers/freezers with temperature fluctuations. Capable of lifting and moving heavy loads as specified. Flexible schedule required, including weekends and holidays. Reliable transportation necessary.
