Job description

The Business Systems Manager is responsible for evaluating, optimizing, and implementing the business systems that support a fast-paced ready-mix operation. This individual will work closely with leadership and end users to understand current workflows, identify operational challenges, and determine whether the best solution is improved training, process improvement, enhanced reporting, system configuration, or implementation of a new technology platform.

This role serves as the bridge between business operations, technology, vendors, and leadership. The Business Systems Manager will assess how existing systems are being used, troubleshoot gaps, develop reporting and tools that improve visibility, and ensure employees have the training and support needed to effectively utilize current technology.

When new systems are required, this individual will lead the evaluation and implementation process - from gathering business requirements and evaluating vendors through implementation, training, adoption, and ongoing optimization.

The ideal candidate combines business process improvement, systems knowledge, project management, and strong communication skills and is comfortable managing multiple priorities across an operational organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Systems Assessment & Optimization
  • Evaluate current business systems, workflows, and user practices to identify inefficiencies, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Partner with employees and leadership to understand operational challenges and determine the root cause of system or process issues.
  • Determine whether improvements require additional user training, process changes, system configuration, enhanced reporting, or a new technology solution.
  • Develop recommendations and implementation plans based on business needs, operational impact, cost, and scalability.
  • Continuously evaluate system effectiveness and identify opportunities to improve utilization and business performance.
System Support, Training & Reporting
  • Serve as a key internal resource for business systems, helping users troubleshoot issues and improve system utilization.
  • Identify knowledge and adoption gaps and develop training, documentation, and best practices for end users.
  • Design and improve reports, dashboards, and system outputs that provide leadership and operational teams with meaningful business information.
  • Work with users to improve data quality, system consistency, and reporting accuracy.
  • Establish standardized workflows and processes to support consistent system usage across the organization.
System Selection & Implementation
  • Lead new system evaluations and implementations when existing technology no longer meets business needs.
  • Gather business and technical requirements from leadership, operations, accounting, dispatch, and other stakeholders.
  • Research solutions, coordinate vendor demonstrations, evaluate capabilities, and provide recommendations to leadership.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between software vendors, internal users, and leadership throughout implementation.
  • Coordinate system configuration, data migration, testing, training, rollout, and user adoption.
  • Manage post-implementation issues and ongoing system optimization.
Project & Priority Management
  • Manage multiple system, reporting, and process-improvement initiatives simultaneously.
  • Work with leadership to evaluate competing priorities and determine appropriate sequencing based on business impact and organizational needs.
  • Develop project plans and track timelines, deliverables, dependencies, risks, and outstanding issues.
  • Maintain consistent communication with stakeholders regarding priorities, progress, challenges, and upcoming decisions.
  • Ensure projects remain aligned with operational objectives and leadership expectations.
Continuous Improvement & Stakeholder Partnership
  • Build strong working relationships with leadership, operations, dispatch, accounting, field teams, and other system users.
  • Gather ongoing feedback to identify opportunities for system and process improvement.
  • Translate operational needs into practical technology and process solutions.
  • Support change-management efforts to improve adoption and ensure employees understand both how and why systems and processes are changing.
  • Provide leadership with recommendations, reporting, and insight regarding system performance and improvement opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Operations, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in business systems, systems implementation, business analysis, process improvement, operational excellence, or related roles.
  • Experience evaluating and improving business systems within an operational, construction, manufacturing, logistics, or similar environment preferred.
  • Experience with ERP, dispatch, fleet, accounting, operational, reporting, or workflow management systems strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess business problems and determine whether the appropriate solution involves technology, process improvement, training, reporting, or system configuration.
  • Experience leading software implementations and working directly with technology vendors.
  • Strong project-management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives and competing priorities.
  • Ability to translate operational needs into clear system requirements and practical solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including experience developing reports, dashboards, and actionable business information.
