The Business Systems Analyst partners with business stakeholders to understand operational processes, business objectives, and technology needs. This role helps identify opportunities to improve efficiency, streamline processes, and enhance business performance through technology solutions.
The Business Systems Analyst acts as a liaison between business users and technical teams, assisting with requirements gathering, process improvement initiatives, system implementations, data analysis, user adoption, training, and ongoing application support.
Key Responsibilities
Business Analysis & Process Improvement
- Build strong relationships with business stakeholders and key users.
- Participate in operational meetings to understand business processes, priorities, and challenges.
- Analyze current business processes and identify opportunities for improvement through technology and automation.
- Gather, document, and translate business requirements into functional specifications.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to design, improve, and implement business processes and system solutions.
- Support solution testing, validation, and implementation activities.
- Develop reporting and analytics solutions that support business decision-making.
- Create and maintain system documentation, user guides, and training materials.
- Deliver end-user training and support adoption of new processes and systems.
- Collaborate with software vendors and service providers to evaluate enhancements and new capabilities.
- Maintain system documentation and support change management activities related to system updates.
Systems & Application Support
- Support business-critical applications used in manufacturing and operations environments.
- Analyze system performance and recommend improvements to maximize value and efficiency.
- Assist with troubleshooting, incident resolution, and user support.
- Coordinate with technical teams to ensure successful delivery of system enhancements and upgrades.
- Participate in integration, reporting, and application configuration activities as needed.
Project Support
- Assist with business and functional analysis for technology projects.
- Participate in project planning, requirements gathering, testing, deployment, and implementation efforts.
- Provide subject matter expertise during system enhancement and implementation projects.
- Ensure smooth transition of new solutions to business users through documentation, training, and knowledge transfer.
Compliance & Best Practices
- Support adherence to established IT policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
- Participate in testing, disaster recovery, and business continuity activities as required.
- Follow change management and documentation standards for technology solutions.
- Work effectively with business users, technical teams, vendors, and external partners.
- Share knowledge, best practices, and lessons learned across teams.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and operational excellence.
- Provide after-hours support for critical business applications when necessary.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- 3+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, Business Systems Analyst, Applications Analyst, or similar role.
Preferred Experience & Skills
- Experience with business analysis, project management, change management, system testing, and support processes.
- Manufacturing or industrial environment experience preferred.
- Experience working with plant data historian systems (OSIsoft PI / AVEVA preferred).
- Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), such as IBM Maximo.
- Experience with document management or document control systems (Hexagon preferred).
- Proven ability to analyze, redesign, and improve business processes through technology solutions.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Power BI.
- Experience developing functional requirements and specifications.
- Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience facilitating workshops, meetings, and requirements sessions.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage competing priorities.
- Experience collaborating with geographically dispersed or global teams is a plus.
