Job summary

Staffordshire County Council is looking for a Business Support Assistant (Practitioner Team) to join our Business and Executive Support group in Burton. The role provides high-quality admin support across the organisation and supports frontline teams.

You will handle enquiries, coordinate meetings, input data, process orders, and assist with IT-related tasks. The post is fixed-term for 12 months, with standard hours and training provided.

Interviews are expected week commencing 14 September 2026.

Qualifications

  • Level 2 in Business Administration or equivalent experience.
  • GCSE English and Maths (C/4) or equivalent.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with professional liaison across teams.
  • Accurate data input and retrieval to support performance management.
  • Flexible approach to changes in workload and allocations.
  • Excellent time management and organisation, able to work under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • First point of contact for practitioners; respond to enquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Provide administrative support for meetings; coordinate circulation of agendas and papers.
  • Input and maintain information systems accurately.
  • Handle financial tasks: placing orders, goods receipting, and records maintenance.
  • Produce high-quality documents and offer IT guidance to colleagues.
  • Be flexible to transfer to different teams as needed; training will be provided.

Job description

Business Support Assistant (Practitioner Team)

This role sits within our Business and Executive Support team where you'll play a key role in ensuring a consistent high-level of business support across the organisation.

The role is based in our Burton on Trent office. From time to time you may be required to work in our Uttoxeter office.

We support a number of teams within the Children and Families Service across East Staffordshire whose mission is to create an environment where families are supported to stay together safely and live well in their communities.

This is a varied role and no two days are the same so we always have to be ready to adapt when demands change.

The post is fixed term for 12 months.

Package Description

Main Responsibilities

Some of your responsibilities will include,

  • Being a first point of contact for practitioners so that children, families, partners, and stakeholders are provided with a professional/knowledgeable response to enquiries in a timely manner. This will also include covering Customer Services tasks.
  • Completing a range of administrative tasks including creating documents, administrative support for meetings, coordinating the circulation of agendas and relevant papers.
  • Accurately inputting and maintaining appropriate information systems
  • Undertakinga range of financial transactions such asplacing orders for services/equipment, goods receipting and maintaining records
  • In support of practitioners produce a range of high-quality documents.
  • Providing support advice and guidance to practitioners in the use of the IT and related software including basic induction into systems and processes

Flexibility is also required to address business needs, and we may require you to transfer to alternative teams within the service following appropriate consultation.

Full training in the use of equipment and our systems and procedures will be provided.

The working hours are Monday - Thursday 08:30 - 17:00 and Friday 08:30 - 16:30

The Ideal Candidate

For the purpose of shortlisting, the minimum criteria for the role is:

  • Have a Level 2 in Business Administration or equivalent experience
  • Have GCSE English and Math’s grade C or 4 or equivalent
  • Demonstrate good written and oral communication skills at all levels as you will be liaising with a range of professionals and members of the public
  • Be able to accurately input and retrieve data to support performance management
  • Have a flexible approach and able to respond positively to changes in allocation of work at short notice
  • Have excellent time management and organisational skills with an ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and on own initiative
  • Be comfortable working within a team, with good interpersonal skills to be able advise other staff within the office on IT related issues
  • Good IT and numerical skills with attention to detail.
