Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance or related field and four years of experience with budgets and fiscal affairs or eight years equivalent.
  • Experience supervising staff and managing financial operations in a university or non-profit setting.
  • Strong knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, and internal controls.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee hiring of staff and faculty in coordination with HR.
  • Assist grant and contract administration, including budget setup and transfers.
  • Administer scholarship programs and reports.
  • Prepare financial reports for accreditation and university leadership.
  • Manage office operations and internal controls to ensure compliance.
  • Budget preparation, monitoring, and reconciliation with Hyperion and related tools.
  • Track budget changes and provide guidance to departments.

Salary

The annual salary for this position ranges from $75,000 to $95,000. The final offer will be commensurate with the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications.

Purpose of Position

The Business Operations Manager-Finance partners with the Dean and College Business Officer (CBO). Works closely with the departments to support financial planning and resource allocation. Provides leadership and assists the College with financial matters related to accounting, budgets, endowments, scholarships, financial reporting, and business operations. Reviews and approves all departments’ financial documents and transactions, including travel, requisitions, purchasing card items, funding changes, and budget transfers. Supports the review of eForms and College personnel transactions. Provides administrative guidance, daily financial oversight, and tracking to all College administrative staff. Supervises accounting and administrative financial staff.

Essential Functions

Performs one or more of the following duties:

Human Resources
  • Oversee and coordinate all functions related to the hiring of staff and faculty.
Grant and Contract Administration
  • Assist the faculty and departments with grant and contract administration.
  • Review and approve pre-award and post-award financial transactions including budget set-up, budget transfers, personnel assignments, grant invoices and grant close out.
Scholarships
  • Serve as the administrator for the business unit’s scholarship program.
  • Train reviewers and coordinate offers with scholarship chairs.
  • Oversee scholarship distributions and tuition award distribution forms and reports.
Financial Reporting
  • Prepare special financial reports as requested for accreditation, the Dean, department chairs, faculty, staff and University administrators.
Office Management
  • Oversees, evaluates and updates the business unit’s operating policies and procedures to promote efficient functioning of the department.
Accounting Functions
  • Reconcile the monthly Statement of Accounts; review the business unit’s expenditures, budget transfers, interdepartmental transfers and accounting corrections.
  • Manage and train the accounting and administrative staff; monitor workflow, review and evaluate financial and accounting procedures; oversee timekeeping transactions.
  • Design and manage an effective and efficient system of internal controls and produce reliable and accurate financial information which comply with university regulations, policies and procedures.
Budget Functions
  • Assist departments in the business unit with the annual budget preparation, implementation, monitoring and analysis.
  • Prepare monthly itemized reports for programs as requested.
  • Track all budget changes, transfers and corrections; enter and reconcile all budget entries in Hyperion.
  • Prepare budget variance reports for the business units; coordinate budget transfer requests for the business unit and the Budget Office as needed.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance or related field and four (4) years of experience managing budgets and fiscal affairs for a university or non‑profit organization or eight (8) years of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting procedures, fund accounting, internal controls, human resources, budget preparation and budget administration.
  • Advanced knowledge of PeopleSoft.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong supervisory, management and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Skilled in the use of all components of Microsoft Office and PeopleSoft.
  • Must be detail oriented and able to work under stressful situations to meet deadlines.
Work Schedule
  • Monday through Friday; 8:00am through 5:00pm
  • Hybrid work environment (remote & in‑office)
