Spare-it is a fast-growing clean-tech start-up based in Greentown Labs (Boston, MA). As organizations increasingly demand sustainability data, Spare-it revolutionizes how they measure, report, and reduce in-building waste. Our technology provides our partners with the quantity and composition of their waste at the bin level, enabling organizations to take the first critical step in their waste reduction journeys. About the Role

Spare-it is looking to expand its US sales team to meet the rising demand for sustainability data. We seek a proactive and motivated Business Development Representative (BDR) to contribute to Spare-it’s growth in the U.S. market.

The BDR will be responsible for prospecting, generating leads, and qualifying potential opportunities to fill the sales pipeline. This role will focus on outbound outreach, engaging with potential clients/partners, and scheduling meetings for the sales team. The BDR will play a crucial role in establishing initial relationships with key stakeholders and ensuring a steady flow of qualified opportunities for the sales team.

Reporting to : VP of Growth and Impact

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and research potential clients across various industries, including corporate offices, retail, food and beverage, real estate, large venues, and higher education.
  • Conduct outbound prospecting through cold calling, email campaigns, and social media outreach to generate leads.
  • Qualify inbound leads and assess potential opportunities before passing them to the sales team.
  • Utilize LinkedIn, industry events, and networking opportunities to identify and engage potential prospects.
  • Schedule meetings with qualified leads on behalf of the sales team and leaders.
  • Maintain an organized and up-to-date CRM (Hubspot) with prospect interactions and lead status.
  • Work closely with the marketing team to align outreach efforts with campaigns, messaging, and content that support lead generation.
  • Provide feedback on lead quality and market trends to improve prospecting efforts and strategy.
  • Develop a deep understanding of Spare-it’s products and value proposition to communicate effectively with prospects.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to refine outreach strategies and improve conversion rates.
  • Proactively participate in team meetings, sales training, and professional development opportunities.

Business Development Rep - Profile

The ideal candidate will have a passion for entrepreneurship and sustainability, driven by the difference they can make for the planet. We are a startup, and we all do a bit of everything. While at work, we put everything into it, but we also value our personal time. As one of only a few, you must be comfortable rolling up your sleeves to get things done. At the same time, you are always looking for ways to be more efficient and scalable in the spirit of working at a start-up. You will be comfortable and ideally have experience in prospecting and lead generation, as well as engaging with key decision-makers at various levels within organizations.

Specifics you'll need:

  • Passion for sustainability and a commitment to driving positive environmental change.
  • 1-3 years of experience in business development, sales, or lead generation, preferably within the sustainability or SaaS sectors.
  • Proven ability to generate and qualify leads through outbound prospecting.
  • Strong ability to engage and communicate with prospective clients effectively.
  • Exceptional communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative working style.
  • Driven by human values such as trust, transparency, respect, and kindness.
  • Familiarity with CRM tools and sales pipeline management, ideally Hubspot.
  • A self-starter who is eager to learn, grow, and contribute.
  • Willingness to travel on occasion for industry events and conferences.

Package and benefits

  • Base Salary $65,000 - $75,000 (depending on experience) + variable compensation
