Overview

The Business Development Manager is responsible for identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities within the industrial manufacturing sector, with a primary focus on strategic OEM customers throughout North America. This role develops and maintains long-term customer relationships by collaborating with engineering, sourcing, operations, and executive stakeholders to understand customer needs and deliver value-driven solutions. Working independently, the Business Development Manager develops growth strategies, expands market presence, and drives revenue by cultivating new accounts and strengthening strategic partnerships.

Responsibilities
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities with large OEM office furniture manufacturers across North America.
  • Develop and execute strategic business development plans to expand market presence and increase revenue within targeted accounts and market segments.
  • Build relationships with engineering, product development, procurement, operations, and executive leadership teams at prospective customer organizations.
  • Generate and qualify leads through networking, industry events, referrals, market research, and direct outreach.
  • Understand customer products, manufacturing processes, and technical requirements to identify opportunities for value-added solutions.
  • Drive the sales process from initial contact through opportunity development, proposal presentation, negotiation, and closure.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and leadership teams to develop solutions that address customer challenges and support customer growth initiatives.
  • Develop and manage strategic account plans for key target OEMs.
  • Monitor industry trends, competitive activity, supply chain developments, and emerging technologies within the office furniture and manufacturing sectors.
  • Represent the company at trade shows, industry conferences, and customer events.
  • Maintain a robust pipeline of opportunities and provide accurate sales forecasting and market intelligence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Proven business development and prospecting skills with the ability to identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems and the ability to understand manufacturing processes, engineering requirements, and industrial applications.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to quickly establish credibility and develop trusted partnerships with technical, operational, and commercial stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to identify customer needs and develop effective business solutions.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with a high level of initiative, accountability, and follow-through.
  • Professional presence with the ability to effectively represent the company and interact with customers at all organizational levels, including engineering, operations, sourcing, and executive leadership.
  • Technical aptitude with the ability to effectively communicate product capabilities, manufacturing processes, and value propositions to diverse customer audiences.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, Marketing, or a related field required; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years of business development, technical sales, account management, or related experience in an industrial manufacturing or OEM environment.
  • Experience developing new business with OEM manufacturing customers and managing strategic customer relationships.
  • Experience selling engineered products or components within metal fabrication, industrial manufacturing, office furniture, or related industries preferred.
  • Demonstrated success identifying, qualifying, and closing new business opportunities and developing strategic customer relationships.
  • Ability to understand and communicate technical product features and manufacturing capabilities to engineering, sourcing, and operations personnel.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software.
Travel Requirements
  • Travel approximately 50% of the time throughout North America for customer visits, prospect development, industry events, trade shows, and strategic business meetings.
